It is all about the Content!

I have been talking about content for a long time now and it really is the core building block of what makes the Internet work. When we think about content it has a very broad definition in the digital world. It is everything, the stuff you read, the video you watch, the images you ponder, the apps you use, the information stored in your databases, it is all content.

Whatever you are doing online it is about content, it really is at the core of your business, customer and or member value and growth. Content serves two primary purposes, it connects you with your customer or member because it is useful, and when it does not connect it is a big hint about what you should be doing differently in meeting the needs and interests of your key audiences. This is a concept that eludes many organizations.

There are many areas of the Internet that either require content or are enhanced by the application of content. Social media is a great example, it is the content that drives your social participation, while the social channel has its own dynamics, content fuels the rocket that is social. However, there are several requirements around content that are very important. First, in order for content to be effective, it needs to be well positioned, well created and timely. And that means a content strategy is essential.

Your content strategy needs to be a regular component of your digital or strategic plan, it is that important. If you think about content really being the hub of what you do, and all the areas where it impacts, you can see that the digital world really runs on content.
